James M. TourangeauAssociate
James Tourangeau is an Associate with the Firm. Mr. Tourangeau has extensive experience in complex commercial and securities litigation, with a focus on corporate governance and restructuring, real estate investment and development, complex financial products and investment vehicles, and employment litigation. Mr. Tourangeau also works with institutional and individual clients to formulate and execute alternative dispute resolution strategies, and in the past year alone Mr. Tourangeau has successfully negotiated multiple settlement agreements terminating breach of contract actions with no admission of liability for his clients.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Mr. Tourangeau began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas N. O’Neill, Jr. in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Firm Mr. Tourangeau was a litigation associate at Kasowitz Benson Torres, Alston & Bird, and Meister Seelig & Fein, where his matters included representing national banks in litigation related to performance of custodial and trustee responsibilities in connection with various securities, boards of directors in connection with shareholder derivative suits challenging divestiture, asset sales, and other corporate decision making, individuals and entities in matters related to restrictive employment covenants, and institutional investors in fraud actions related to exotic financial instruments.
In his career, Mr. Tourangeau also has devoted himself to numerous pro bono causes, and has provided legal counsel and direct representation to indigent clients on issues related to real property and contract disputes, unfair and deceptive trade practices, landlord tenant matters, and civil forfeiture. Mr. Tourangeau also has represented indigent immigrant youth in proceedings in state and federal court related to deportation and naturalization. While at Penn Law, Mr. Tourangeau also earned a Certificate in Business Economics and Public Policy from the Wharton School. Prior to law school, Mr. Tourangeau graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in government and a Certificate from the Program for Jewish Civilization.
