Barry R. Lax, a founding partner of LAX & NEVILLE,
LLP, has an extensive background in commercial, employment
and securities litigation. From 2003 through 2007, he owned
and operated The Lax Law Firm, which practice areas included
commercial, employment and securities litigation in all forums,
such as, state and federal courts, and arbitrations before
NASD, NFA, NYSE, JAMS and AAA. The firm represented investors
who had been damaged by broker misconduct, employees and
employers in employment disputes and discrimination actions,
and brokers and broker/dealers in customer arbitrations and
enforcement and regulatory proceedings. Mr. Lax has been
practicing in these areas for approximately 15 years since
he started his career as in-house counsel with Prudential
Securities, Inc., and then CIBC Oppenheimer.
During his career, Mr. Lax has represented customers and
broker/dealers in disputes regarding sales practice issues,
employees and employers in industry and private employment
disputes, ranging from general breach of contract claims
to complex HIV discrimination and Qui Tam actions, and hedge
fund investors and general partners in complicated commercial
and securities litigations. On behalf of broker/dealer customers
and employees, he has recovered in excess of $20,000,000
in awards, judgments and settlements. On behalf of his defense
clients, he has successfully defended and resolved numerous
matters.
Mr. Lax holds a B.A. from Emory University and a J.D. from
Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was awarded
a fellowship from the Carl C. Icahn Foundation Institute
for
Child Protection. He is an arbitrator for FINRA Dispute
Resolution, Inc., a panel member of the Legal Referral
Service Program
of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and
the New York County Lawyers' Association and a member of
the Bar of the State of New York, and has been admitted
to U.S Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the
U.S.
District Court for the Southern, Western and Eastern Districts
of New York.
