Barry R. Lax, a founding partner of LAX & NEVILLE, LLP, has an extensive background in commercial, employment and securities litigation. From 2003 through 2007, he owned and operated The Lax Law Firm, which practice areas included commercial, employment and securities litigation in all forums, such as, state and federal courts, and arbitrations before NASD, NFA, NYSE, JAMS and AAA. The firm represented investors who had been damaged by broker misconduct, employees and employers in employment disputes and discrimination actions, and brokers and broker/dealers in customer arbitrations and enforcement and regulatory proceedings. Mr. Lax has been practicing in these areas for approximately 15 years since he started his career as in-house counsel with Prudential Securities, Inc., and then CIBC Oppenheimer.
During his career, Mr. Lax has represented customers and broker/dealers in disputes regarding sales practice issues, employees and employers in industry and private employment disputes, ranging from general breach of contract claims to complex HIV discrimination and Qui Tam actions, and hedge fund investors and general partners in complicated commercial and securities litigations. On behalf of broker/dealer customers and employees, he has recovered in excess of $20,000,000 in awards, judgments and settlements. On behalf of his defense clients, he has successfully defended and resolved numerous matters.
Mr. Lax holds a B.A. from Emory University and a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was awarded a fellowship from the Carl C. Icahn Foundation Institute for Child Protection.
